Art, History, Culture
The province of Reggio Calabria offers many artistic and archaeological legacies from its important past. It is a territory that has been inhabited since primeval times. A territory which, on the arrival of the Greeks in the V century, saw the emergence of a Magna-Greacia civilisation of which we can still see the remains today in the museum in Reggio Calabria or in archaeological areas such as the one around Locri. A civilisation whose magnificence can only be partially admired today in the form of “pinakes”, which were votive tiles, sculptures, ruins of temples and sanctuaries, and coins.
A territory where we can clearly see the remains of other cultures, such as the Byzantine culture, that bring a touch of the Orient to the province of Reggio.
We can also discover small hamlets rich in history, culture, customs and century-old traditions, many of which have been inherited from the numerous people that have occupied these areas over the centuries.
